Experience the landscape with new eyes as you get to know wild foods. From wild greens, to native fruits, shoots, roots, mushrooms and beyond, you will leave knowing some of the most vibrant, nutrient dense foods likely growing right outside your front door. Iā€™m excited to give you a taste of the wild!

What to expect:

There are plenty of seasonal wild veggies throughout the year to identify and gather. We will learn around 15 wild foods throughout the walk and go over basic botany & mycology.

Mushrooms are highly dependent on weather so they are not guaranteed. The best times for mushroom diversity are July & August. There are delicious mushrooms like morels that occur in April and plenty of Fall mushrooms as well. There are even some select edible mushrooms found in mid winter.

You will have the opportunity to pick wild edibles to take with you for enjoying later. You will also get to taste a wild food sampler using ingredients we learned about. This experience will no doubt be something you remember for years to come!

I started foraging in 2012 as a way to distance myself from dependence on the industrial food system. I began teaching foraging professionally in 2019 and have taught hundreds of students since. After 10+ years pursuing this passion in various bioregions, I have a lot of insight to pass on and would love to inspire your wild food journey.

Looking forward to foraging with you!

Thanks!

Gathering Candy Cap mushrooms in the hills of Oakland, CA. Candy Caps (Lactarius rubidus) smell & taste strikingly similar to maple syrup and are prized by foragers and chefs.
